I was swinging by Kusafiri Coffee Shop and Bakery in Disney’s Animal Kingdom the other day and two things on the breakfast menu caught my little eye…

First up — the hot breakfast wrap sounded like a yummy, protein-y mix of goodness to fuel my park day (and I did get it, though I’ll tell you all about it in another post); but THEN…how could I ignore the next item on the menu?
Warm Colossal Cinnamon Roll???? For NINE DOLLARS?!??!?!
OK, so A) When you use the word “colossal,” you better mean business, and B) Seriously?? Nine dollars???
I took this picture to show you the size of this thing. The roll is big enough to fill up the plate. And that’s a DINNER PLATE, you guys, not just a little snack/side plate.
But I’m happy to say it’s clear that this is a pastry that’s meant to be shared. Take a closer look, and you can see that it’s actually sort of a pull-apart construction, as though they put a few smaller rolls into a pan, and they sort of baked together.
And it may look kinda of dark like it’s overcooked, but it’s not. That’s just the extra butter-sugar-cinnamon goodness that sort of seeped out of the seams, and it flavors the whole roll.
Pull it apart, and you can see the incredible rich pastry. There’s nothing dry about the bread itself, which is clearly tender and chock full of butter.
But then, you also have plenty of thick cinnamon ribbons to break up the dough. And if that weren’t enough, they’ve doused the whole thing in more cinnamon and sugar-spiked butter.
To that, they add a drizzle of white icing. And this is the only issue that I take with it — I prefer full on frosting, smeared across the top and dripping down the sides. Extra bonus points when I can actually dip bites of the roll into the extra frosting.
But that buttery glaze does a pretty good job with keeping this rich and delicious. So while it’s probably not something I’d get on a regular basis due to the lack of good frosting, if you’re not a frosting addict like me, you’ll be perfectly happy with this. ;-D
My thoughts? Is this plate of warm cinnamon-y goodness worth the steep pricetag?
I’m gonna say…yes and no. If you were anywhere but Disney, this wouldn’t be worth the money. But seeing as pastries at Disney regularly cost $3.99+ for a single serving, and this could — nay, should — be shared by at least two people (and, really, it’s a good sized serving for three or four), it’s probably worth it to feed the family for breakfast in the park.
