At the end of last year, Disney execs were in talks with Virgin Trains about the possibility of a train station on or near Disney property en route to Tampa. The proposed station would mean you could hop on a train at the Orlando airport and get off at Disney. Eek!
Though we haven’t heard any news since then about the Disney stations specifically, it looks like things are progressing for the railway! Virgin Trains teams are continuing construction on the South Florida to Orlando Railway, despite the many construction halts around the state.
According to Fox 35 Orlando, executives at Virgin Trains say that construction on the railway is proceeding on schedule. Executive Vice President of Rail Infrastructure Michael Cegelis said, “We’ve been able to absorb the impact so far,” in response to the effect of the global health crisis.
During construction, rail line officials say that there have been changes made to make the work environment safe. The fact that they’re working on a 168-mile linear railroad allows the workforce to remain more spread out.
In fact, Cegelis even reported that the global health crisis has made it easier for Virgin Trains to find labor. With so many construction crews out of work, an ongoing and safe project has been the answer for many of them. The railway is set to be completed by December 2022.
There has been no further news on whether or not Disney World will be getting a station and when it will be constructed, but you can bet that we have our fingers crossed it’s soon! We’ll take any opportunity to get to Disney World a little bit quicker!

Would you love to see a train station at Disney? Let us know in the comments!
This sounds great. Especially if train connects Orlando, Disney World, and Tampa. We have been semi retired for 15 years. However, we continue to work on contract basis. Much of our work has placed us in Europe. We find inter city train travel marvelous. As a side note we spent about half our time in Florida. Our Florida home is in Celebration, just off World Drive. We are annual pass holders, and most days we are in Celebration we spend some time in Disney World. Our other home is a farm in Connecticut.
