If you follow along here at DFB, you know we like to have a good time, we love food, and we LOVE Disney.
We are some of the biggest Disney fans out there, but we can’t help but think there are some things that Disney fans are thinking but no one will fess up and say.
But since the parks are closed and we are slowly slipping into insanity, we thought we’d get some of these thoughts out in the open. Take a deep, calming breath and say it with us: SOLIDARITY!
On Disney Food…
Why don’t they sell Runts or Tart n Tinys or M&Ms in those little acrylic boxes anymore? Those things were rad.
Disney used to sell little clear boxes or tubes of different candies (usually with Disney characters printed on top!) that we are certain tasted better than the ones at home. 😉
After we chowed down all the candy in the first 10 minutes of the car ride or flight home, we would use the box to store our trinkets and remember our Disney vacay. Ahh how we miss you little boxes.
This always felt like a more unique way to sell pre-packaged candy than the more blah bags sold in most gift shops now. (Thanks Carl S. for the pics!!)
Stop calling them verrines. Nobody knows what that means.
If you try to grab a dessert at most fast-food type spots in Hollywood Studios you might notice a…unique trend. Verrines. What IS a verrine, exactly? It’s a layered dessert in a cup. It’s an individual parfait. A trifle. It might have a whipped cream, mousse, or pudding base with a variety of hunks of other stuff (like those ubiquitous crispy pearls or popping pearls) to give it some texture. It’s not hard to stumble past a verrine in Hollywood Studios if you want to try one. They seem to be EVERYWHERE!
There’s nothing inherently WRONG with verrines (we actually enjoy most of them!), and I’m sure they’re fast and cheap to produce and keep well. So I get it. But seriously, did anyone know what it was when they first saw it on the menu? I know that “parfait” doesn’t necessarily mean an individual serving (“verrine” does), but I bet a lot more people will know what the sam hill you’re talking about if you call them parfaits instead of verrines. No need to be grandiloquent with your theme park dessert names. They just need to taste good and be worth the money.
Why did they get rid of Sweet Spells in Hollywood Studios??
Speaking of sweet treats, uhhh, what does a Disney fan have to do to get a caramel apple in Hollywood Studios?
Sweet Spells used to be our go-to spot for all our favorite candy, fudge, and specialty apples. But alas, it’s gone — but not forgotten. Why ya gotta do us like that Disney? Give us SOMEWHERE in Hollywood Studios to get freshly made candy and treats!
We get “space food,” but why is there so much not-yummy food in Galaxy’s Edge?
Okay, hear us out. We love a good Ronto Wrap, buuuut with the recent addition of the interesting breakfast options at the Milk Stand, things are getting iffy. First, they morph chicken into a rectangular log and now we’re eating green yogurt that tastes like the already questionable green milk?
Most of the food leaves us a bit wanting (lookin’ at you, Happabore Sampler!) but we gotta give props for really going for it.

The cinnamon rolls at Gaston’s Tavern are not as good as they were at Main Street Bakery.
We are still chasing the joy of diving into a Main Street Bakery Cinnamon Roll back in the day.
They have since supposedly moved to Gaston’s Tavern in Fantasyland. Both versions are big as your face and covered in warm cream cheese frosting, but we just remember the Main Street versions tasting even BETTER. Maybe it’s just that we don’t get to stare at the front of the castle while we eat it, but Gaston’s rolls seem to hit different, you know?
Maybe it’s just those rose-colored glasses of our nostalgic past. Let us know what YOU think in the comments!

Why can’t Disney World have soup in bread bowls?!
Here’s one we can’t figure out…why are we not seeing more hollowed out loaves filled with soup and mac and cheese like we do in Disneyland??
Disneyland has been filling up bread bowls with whatever they can find (and we’ll give them credit here — they DO have their own sourdough bread bakery IN Disney California Adventure that you can tour!), so how about we bring some of that bakery innovation over to the East Coast. You’ve done it before and you can do it again! We’re sure Columbia Harbor House would welcome it with open arms!

Blue Curacao doesn’t need to be a cocktail staple.
There. We said it. Somehow this stuff ends up in everything. The SnowTini, the Kakamora Float, the Arendelle Aqua drinks — the list goes on. We love the color blue as much as the next person, but not all of our drinks need to bear the striking hue!
We don’t mind it in some things, but we see this syrup popping up constantly in Disney drinks. The problem is it typically makes otherwise good drinks or snacks overly sweet. Maybe show a little restraint with dousing everything with the blue stuff? There have been Disney drinks that are blue that DON’T have curacao…made with more innovative and natural recipes. So…just a thought.
Check out the food trends we would LOVE to see in the Disney parks here!
We want McDonald’s back in the parks!
I know we’re gonna get hate mail on this one! And again, maybe it’s just us looking back fondly on the Disney World of our youths. You know we love some Disney fries, but even with all the different toppings and options available — we can’t fight this feeling anymore.
McDonald’s used to have a respectable presence in the parks from 1997-2008! You could get McD’s fries at a location in each of the theme parks (you could even get Happy Meals at Restaurantosaurus!). Those crispy fries seem to hit the spot most days, but we’re pretty sure they had a little EXTRA magic sprinkled on them in the parks — we STILL crave them!

On Disney Characters…
Fancy Nancy is SUPER scary.
You have to see this one to understand. Feast your eyes on: FANCY NANCY.
She’s a Disney Junior character that haunts our dreams. We know from experience kids do LOVE meeting her, but for us adults she can be a little offputting. We even ate breakfast with her and she was a delight, but there’s still something about her that keeps us up at night.
Click here to see more of our breakfast with Fancy Nancy in Hollywood Studios!
Belle deserved a better color trend.
Aurora got her Briar Rose Gold, Anna and Elsa got Arendelle Aqua, and Belle got…BROWN. Technically it was called “Belle of the Ball Bronze” buuuut, tbh, it was just brown.
Not a speck of yellow or red roses in sight. So we aren’t sure if Disney was loving the alliteration of Belle and Bronze or if they were looking to perfectly match her hair. If that was the case: YA NAILED IT! But truly, Belle deserved better.

New Goofy looks like a hobo.
Don’t believe us? Case in point:
Or this:
Hear us out, Goofy is straight-up lovable and adorable. The OG GOOFY. This guy:
But the version of him from the new style of Mickey shorts? Yikes.
Click here to see our first look at Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway!
We want to meet ridiculously rare characters like the Baby Oysters from Alice in Wonderland or the Dancing Mushrooms from Fantasia!
Alice, we love you, but you better believe we would be the first to line up to see some more “rare” characters.
Doesn’t anyone else want their picture taken with a Baby Oyster? Or Cogsworth? We love meeting the current characters, but there are so many more unique and rare ones we NEED the chance to meet!
On Disney Technology…
For how much our vacation depends on My Disney Experience, the app still has lots of issues… .
We still wake up in the middle of the night with cold sweats thinking about the time we found a Flight of Passage FastPass+ that started in ten minutes…only to be snatched away into the abyss as the My Disney Experience app crashed…yet again!
The app and website are GREAT for so many things, but they’re also riddled with problems. We’ve been well into the “enter your credit card info” stage of scoring a great dining reservation many times only to get one of the dreaded screens saying something went wrong! We back up to the reservation page and — GONE! We know the app works hard, and we APPRECIATE having it, believe us. But…sigh…it’s a struggle sometimes.
The Wi-Fi in the parks is…rough.
Speaking of the My Disney Experience app, ever noticed when using it in the parks you might find yourself frustratedly switching off wi-fi on your phone and relying on your precious data plan instead? Happens to us ALL THE TIME.
Disney World provides complimentary wi-fi, which is GLORIOUS; but it can definitely get jammed up. It’s slow and unreliable, and some times it just doesn’t work at all. Again, there’s likely nowhere else in the world where people are using their phones and wi-fi this much…and that location offers FREE WI-FI. It’s awesome that Disney is doing this. But we know that Disney is a true innovator…so we’re hoping they can find a way to get that wi-fi workin’ a little bit better.
On Attractions…
Bring back Aladdin’s Royal Caravan parade from the 90s.
This thing was epic. The camels, the massive Genie, the MUSIC.
The parade at Hollywood Studios and Disneyland may seem random now, but we grew to love it. Plus, we REALLY miss having a parade at Hollywood Studios to look forward to.
Or hey, how about bringing back Spectromagic or the Main Street Electrical Parade. Make our eyes BURN with lights!!
Speaking of parades, we REALLY miss having a nighttime parade in Magic Kingdom.
We had to say goodbye to the Main Street Electrical Parade AND Spectromagic in Magic Kingdom over the last few decades, and there’s still a lightbulb shaped hole in our hearts since they’ve been gone. What would it take to get Magic Kingdom one itty bitty night time parade again? Please? Pretty please?!
Do people really love Avatar that much?
Not to fear, Avatar fans! We are super thankful for the Valley of Mo’ara and all of the amazing things it brought to Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Now we have Flight of Passage, Night Blossoms, and some really unique eats.
But when we first heard about Disney building the land, we thought to ourselves “Huh, I didn’t realize people loved Avatar that much… .” Yes it crushed in the box office (aaaaaaall the way back in 2009), but who would have guessed that meant a whole extra land in Disney World?!
You keep putting things from movies in the parks, but when are you going to make an original ride again, Disney?
You threw us a bone with Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway…
…but Disney parks are seeing more and more attractions (like Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, TRON Lightcycle Run, and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure) repurposed from films. The Disney Parks wouldn’t be what they are without unique rides like the Haunted Mansion and or Pirates of the Caribbean! We would love to see more of that original Disney magic!
Check out some of the Disney attractions that were never made here!
On Shopping
ShopDisney needs to figure out how to implement limited releases without glitches.
Yo shopDisney, you know your site is gonna be overloaded with traffic when you drop limited release items. So can you please improve the site so we can throw our money at you for said items and go on our merry way?
We heard of several frustrated guests during the latest Minnie Mouse: The Main Attraction release because they couldn’t check out, the page wouldn’t load, or it wouldn’t show out of stock until after they tried to buy something. It shouldn’t be this hard to take our money! Virtual queues may help, though! We’ll report back.
Nobody needs to buy 10 of anything when released on ShopDisney or in store. Knock that off!
Speaking of limited releases…please save some for the rest of us. We desperately want a set of Minnie Mouse ears too and we don’t want to buy them from someone off eBay for 10 times the price.
We have almost lost limbs trying to pick up items in Disney gift shops when limited releases are dropped. We know it may just be us, but we don’t think any guest or cast member’s life is worth shoving, harassing, or snatching. Set a realistic limit on merchandise — we can’t imagine normal folks need more than one or two of anything, especially pricey limited release merch, so why cap them at ten?!
We see that merch you’re cranking out in Tokyo. Let’s up the game stateside!
We know that Disney isn’t the true “owner” of Tokyo Disney Resort buuuuut can your people talk to their people about hookin’ us up with some of that MERCH!
They have the cutest headbands, keychains, purses, and Duffy galore! We’ve seen Oyster plush from Alice in Wonderland, adorable Fantasia plush galore, those CUTE hamburger Mickey ear plush purses, and so many other fun goodies. The stuff coming out of those parks is NEXT LEVEL merch. Hook. Us. Up.
Speaking of…where is the Mickey Soap?!
This may be something we can never get past. We dream of the day when we can fill every room in our houses (whether they have sinks or not!) with Mickey soap dispensers!
Tokyo Disney Resort sells the most EXTRA foam soap dispensers that pump out soap in the shape of Mickey’s iconic head. It’s downright magical. Just picture the joy on your face as you go to wash your hands and a perfect little cloud of soapy Mickey bubbles appears. Especially right now, with all the hand washing we’re doing, this would make that experience a whole lot more enjoyable! These are the #DisneyMagicMoments we live for.
Check out the upcoming Minnie Mouse: The Main Attraction Collection here!
Thank you for embarking on this journey with us — and for being a safe space as we clear our heads. (Now, try to be nice, upstanding human beings in the comments. We’re havin’ a little fun here; y’all don’t need to take it that seriously.) Phew, we’re feelin’ better already! (But really, we still want a nighttime parade and Mickey hamburger purses, Disney! 😉 )

Did we miss any? Let us know if there are any other thoughts Disney fans have but don’t say down in the comments!
Hobo Goofy? You are being too nice. He looks like a meth addict, and so the other characters.
As far as live action movie remakes go is Disney running out of imagination? How about something original?
Yes, please bring back the night time parades. They were the absolute best thing in Disney.
I miss all the different fudge flavors. You could get maple, pumpkin, strawberry swirl and more. I have tried the fudge since Disney reopened and it is not the same with the peanut butter and chocolate. Thankful the Carmel Chocolate apples are still delicious.
I thought I was a naughty one that thought the cinnamon rolls tasted different at Gaston’s. Nice to know I’m not alone.
Spot on! We NEED that Disney Mickey head soap dispenser!! C’mon…
Do you remember “Pal Mickey”? An interactive plush that would react to various radio signals in the park, giving you trivia questions, games, even a notice that the line for Space Mountain might be short. They’d even react if they got close to another Pal Mickey plush.
They should bring that back, updated to work with mobile devices (and the MDX app), and with a USB port to plug into your computer so you can receive content updates at home. (“Why yes, Pal Mickey, thank you for the reminder that a new episode of The Mandolorian is on Disney+ today!”).
And why not a whole line of these little virtual hosts/playmates? Jimmy Cricket would make an excellent guide. The Genie form Aladdin would bring an extra bounce to your day. Buzz Lightyear could help you explore. And I’m sure Belle has many interesting facts in her library.
Am I the only one who is completely creeped out & hates the new Ren & Stimpy Mickey shorts style??
Jen, many DFB team members agree!
I just had my first cinnamon roll at Gaston’s Tavern and was sadly disappointed. It was not even warm and we were there when they opened!
I still have my Pal Mickey vintage 2005, and, he still works! It would be cool if Disney brought him back with updated innards (WIFI, Bluetooth, etc).
WE NEED THAT TOKYO MERCH!!!! I would gladly give Disney more money if they started selling some Tokyo-level goodness. All those pins and popcorn buckets are epic. I KNOW YOU’RE READING, DISNEY!
I miss the old menu at Pecos Bills! We used to get the molten cheese on the toppings bar for the fries and our boys loved eating there when they were growing up.
I agree with all of these- especially the McDs fries, the parades, and the soap!!!
Took the words right out of my mouth!
I was planning to go to Disneyland to see the main street electrical parade again. The Magic Kingdom needs this!
Disney food has always been the weakest link of a Disney vacation but your blog now makes me question my DVC membership. So much of what made Disney so great is gone, and going day by day. I may have to sell my house and move out of Kissimmee where I had hoped to retire. With so little left, and more being cut out, and price increases looming, my DVC membership may not be the best kept secret anymore… it is just getting to expensive across the board. bad Show…,
I love the cavalcades we’re seeing now, because parades always seemed tooooooo loooong (especially when you’re stuck on one side of the street you’d really like to be on the othrr side of), but on the other hand I really miss the Jammin’ Jungle (or Jingle) parade at AK!
And yes, the new Mickey shorts characters/ with Ren and Stimpy style animation DO look and act like meth addicts! We won’t watch these new cartoons. Seriously.
As long time Disney parks fans (I first went to Disneyland on Day 2 and my husband’s first visit was in 1973) we are very disappointed with the decrease in novel imagineering and the disappearance of the legendary Disney service over the past 6 or 7 years. It’s sad.
I was also disappointed with the Cinnamon Roll at Gaston’s – I did ask for it to be warmed, which they did for me, but it seems they drizzle something maple-flavored on it as well, which I do NOT care for. Just want the taste of a great cinnamon roll, not a pancake.
Omg yesss please limit merchandise to one or two per person! It makes me sick to see them on eBay for quadruple the price. Also the entire ren and stumpy vibe is aweful?! Who signed off on that?
