We took a trip to Disney’s Animal Kingdom AND Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge to see what’s new!
We love soaking in the awesome atmosphere at Disney’s Animal Kingdom! We wanted to see what all is new in the park since our last visit. Will there be more Halloween merch?? Additional construction progress?? You’re about to find out…here are all of the food, construction, and merchandise updates from Animal Kingdom AND Animal Kingdom Lodge!
Animal Kingdom Food Updates
Popcorn Carts
Yup, it’s definitely spooky season in Disney World! We spotted the return of the Purple Cauldron Popcorn Bucket at the popcorn cart near Finding Nemo — The Musical and at another cart in Africa near Zuri’s Sweets Shop.
We saw this bucket last year, but it’s now made it back into Animal Kingdom ahead of the holiday! The back of the bucket says “Happy Halloween” and the top lights up.
You can snag one of these popcorn buckets for $17.

Animal Kingdom Construction Updates
A few weeks ago, we noticed that there was a new structure being built near the end of Kilimanjaro Safaris. And it looks like construction has continued on this new building.
Here’s a look at the new building from another angle.
We’re not sure what the new structure will be used for, but we’ll continue to keep an eye out for additional updates!
Animal Kingdom Merchandise Updates
Riverside Depot
Popcorn buckets weren’t the only spooky addition to the park! We also spotted several new Halloween t-shirts in Riverside Depot. There’s a Halloween 2020 T-Shirt featuring an adorable Mickey-shaped pumpkin for $24.99.
And we also saw this sparkly “Boo” Halloween T-Shirt with multi-colored sequins and sweet treats for $39.99.
Mombasa Marketplace
In Mombasa Marketplace, we found a few new shirts that are perfect for Animal Kingdom. There’s a The Lion King Polo Shirt available for $49.99.
And this sparkly Minnie Mouse V-Neck Shirt lets you show off your wild side for $36.99.
Last, but certainly not least, there’s a new Mickey Mouse Tank Top available for $34.99!
And with that, let’s head over to Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge to see what’s happenin’ at the resort!

What’s New at Animal Kingdom Lodge
It was a gorgeous day at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge!
First, we swung by Sanaa to see what changes had been made to the menu since we last ate there in June. We noticed several items have been removed from the menu since our previous visit, including the Durban Shrimp and Paneer Tikka, among others.
Here’s a look at the current lunch menu at Sanaa.
In the gift shop Johari Treasures, we spotted a fan-favorite snack available for sale — Zebra Domes! Guests can usually find Zebra Domes at Boma and The Mara, but since both of these restaurants are still currently closed, we were glad to see that we can still get our fix from the gift shop!
These are available in either their classic form or a gluten-free version. You can snag a pack of four for $4.29.
We also found a few new pins inside Johari Treasures. There’s a Disney Vacation Club Pin featuring Mickey and Pluto roasting marshmallows for $17.99.
And there’s also a Disney Vacation Club Pin with Minnie and Daisy lounging by the beach for $17.99!
Plus, we saw this adorable “I Am Groot” Pin for $9.99.
And with that, we concluded our visit to Animal Kingdom and Animal Kingdom Lodge! We were super excited to see the return of Halloween popcorn buckets AND we were thrilled to find the iconic Zebra Domes available at the Animal Kingdom Lodge gift shop. We’ll continue to head out to the parks and resorts to see what other additions make their way to Disney World, so stay tuned!

I really miss Jambo House. and Jiko. And even the Mara. Met the sweetest cast member there last year and I also loved the pap and chakalaka that comes with breakfast platter. Can we even find that anywhere else? 🙁 I wish they would announce an opening date, even if far in the future, but I understand why they can’t. Still, my heart longs for the day I can return.
We stayed there this week. And we were on the hunt for the Zebra Domes since Boma was closed.
We FINALLY got to try them for the first time.
Now we understand why everyone loves them.
They were AMAZING!!!
