food IS a theme park
Welcome back! We’re here with another What’s New at Downtown Disney!
It’s been a busy week so we’ve got plenty of dining, construction, and merchandise updates to share with you! So, what are you waiting for? Let’s jump right on in!
California recently enforced a new mandate that requires indoor dining locations to close in 19 counties, including Orange County, where Disneyland Resort is located. Although Disney recently announced that the reopening of Disneyland’s theme parks would be delayed, Downtown Disney remains on track to reopen on July 9th. This led us to wonder which Downtown Disney restaurants would still be reopening in light of the mandate.
Restaurants with outdoor seating and patios still have the option to open for outdoor dining, and today we confirmed TWO Downtown Disney restaurants that are DEFINITELY reopening along with the various merchandise and shopping locations!
Looking for a romantic way to spend Valentine’s Day in Disneyland? (Take notes, Valentines!)
If you’re in the mood for a treat or two while you’re strolling through Downtown Disney with a special someone, you’re going to want to check out this super festive and (wait for it…) PINK drink!
National Pizza Day is coming up on Sunday, February 9th and we’re already planning out how we’re going to eat our weight in pizza.
And a perfect place to do just that is at Naples Ristorante e Bar in Downtown Disney.

Well, we lost the REAL Disneyland Food and Wine Festival this year, but those lucky enough to live near Disneyland or who happen to be on vacation there at the moment can consider taking part in the mini “Food and Wine Festival” that is happening at three of Downtown Disney’s Restaurants through June 3rd!
Enjoy delicious food, spirits, and wine from Italy, Spain, and Mexico at Catal Restaurant and Uva Bar, Tortilla Jo’s, and [Read more…]

The main complaint I hear regarding the re-instated 180-day window for Disney World Advanced Dining Reservations is that it’s impossible to get a seat in a restaurant “on a whim.” I wanted to address that concern and add another challenge: what if you don’t have park tickets, either?
I thought it’d be fun to tackle this situation and suggest a few spots in both Disney World and Disneyland for those who find themselves in this “pickle!”
Nope! I’m not kidding. It doesn’t have to be a hassle to find a good, table-service meal in Disney World — even when you don’t have a reservation or a park ticket! Here are four of my favorite go-to locations at all different price points:
Beaches and Cream $
Welcome back to the 1950’s soda shoppe! Beaches and Cream is located at Disney’s Beach Club Resort and doesn’t even take reservations, so you won’t ever run into the no ADR problem! This spot serves simple, but delicious, [Read more…]

In Disneyland last week, I chose to have lunch at Naples, a restaurant/pizzeria located in Disneyland’s Downtown Disney area and run by the Patina Group — the same folks who will be running Via Napoli in Epcot’s Italy!
As you know, Via Napoli will be opening as a Pizzeria in Fall 2010, just in time for the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival, and we’re all eager to determine whether this will be the opportunity to get some really great pizza in Walt Disney World.
We dined here primarily to see what we might be getting in Disney World this fall, but we had a wonderful experience that makes Naples one of our new favorite and [Read more…]

Just wanted to share some news I heard recently from fellow blogger, Theme Park Mom. This is third-party info from someone “close to the source,” but I think it’s pretty exciting!
Cantina de San Angel Info
Mexico’s Cantina de San Angel, currently under demo and expansion in Epcot’s World Showcase, will re-emerge as a counter-service and table-service restaurant. But a bit of info that I didn’t know about is that the restaurant will be counter-service for lunch and half table-service, half counter-service, for dinner. (This will be helpful for those of you who, like me, are making up your Disney dining spreadsheets for your Food & Wine Festival trips!)
News on the Mysterious Imported Water
Also, word is that that mysterious “imported water” that will be used in the new Italy Pizzeria in Epcot will be trucked in from a location in the midwest where chemical analysis on the water has shown it to be extremely similar to the H2O found in Naples, Italy. I wonder where…
Diamond Horseshoe in WDW Open Temporarily
In Magic Kingdom food news, the Diamond Horseshoe will be open 3/27/10-4/7/10 from 5:00-9:00PM daily for an all-you-can-eat meal, including family-style platters of Saloon Salad (tossed mixed greens with strawberry vinaigrette dressing) and fare from the Ranchhand’s Feast (roasted turkey breast, carved beef and smoked pork loin with sides of seasonal vegetables, herb bread stuffing and macaroni and cheese). Sound familiar? Yep, this is basically an extension of Liberty Tree Tavern while the parks are mobbed for Spring Break. 🙂
